During the first months of Covid-19, I recorded daily songs for my preschool students and their families. By the end of the school year on June 5th, 2020, I had made 60 videos! Here’s just a small sample, and you can find the rest on Youtube. I loved doing this, and it helped me stay connected with the children (who I missed very much!).
This is my very first Songs with Miss Jenny video, the one that started it all! The song is “When the Rain Comes Down”, originally by Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer. I taught it to my students right before schools closed for the pandemic.
This is another Songs with Miss Jenny video, featuring my wonderful dad on the guitar. “Pallet on the Floor” is one of my all-time favorite folk songs. It’s origins are a little nebulous, but the first known recording was made by Mississippi John Hurt.
I learned this one from Sesame Street's iconic "Sing Yourself Silly" episode. The music is by Bud Luckey, and the lyrics are by Donald Hadley. We had a lot of fun with this one!
This is “Lullaby” by Trout Fishing in America, orginally written by Ezra Idlet and Keith Grimwood. I am joined again by my dad on the guitar!
This song is very coooool. I learned from Sharon, Lois, and Bram. It features my dad on the bass this time, actor Dylan Crow in sunglasses, and Westminster Nature Preschool director Jil Persons.
This was my Mother's Day video ! This song is Bushel and Peck, from the classic musical Guys and Dolls. This video also includes a poem, The Butterfly Jar by Jeff Moss. It's a really lovely poem and it makes me think about my own mom.
For the final song of the school year, we did "Lookin' Out My Back Door" by Creedence Clearwater Revival! This video is very special to me, because it includes some original artwork, made my the children at our school.
